Bistro del Puerto, Estepona, Spain.

14th April 2011

We ate our way round the Spanish triangle, however Estepona was not part of the plan. Mr A. had a panic attack about the fact that it was the 2nd last day of our trip and that we really ought to be by the sea! Therefore, ‘flying by the seat of our pants’ we moved on from Seville a night early. Life’s too short, particularly for me as the gypsy fortuneteller at the Alhambra Palace said the Mr A. would live longer!!!!

We walked the forty minutes from our hotel to the marina in the centre of the town via the beach. The marina has restaurants from one end to the other, we chose Bistro del Puerto because the menu looked good of course, but also the French waitress was lovely.

We were also delighted to see that we could order a bottle of wine that was not Spanish, hurray! Therefore, we ordered Chateau La Fleur Nardon, 2006, St Emilion. This went well with the beautiful sunset  behind the yachts and boats.

Mr A. ordered Tomato and Mozzarella salad to start; I had bread and olive oil (surprise!). We were not disappointed; they were both as you would expect.

For main I ordered Nicoise Salad and Mr A. had Roquefort Steak. Unfortunately, Mr A’s steak was not picture worthy; it looked like someone had thrown up on his plate. However, looks were deceiving, it tasted fantastic. I intend to recreate this steak and sauce at home. Finally, don’t order coffee it wasn’t great.

It was a beautiful setting for dinner and a really great place to be on our last night. We finished the evening with a gin and tonic at the lively Cafe Reinaldo’s. Estepona was worth the detour!

For the food, view and sunset.

  1. BEWARE VERY RUDE WAITRESS

We visited the BISTRO del puerto at the port in Estepona on Tuesday August 21st from 10:30pm to 11:40pm and we were 4 adults with 5 children looking to grab a quick bite to eat and enjoy our time this lovely evening.

However after we have almost completed our meal a very rude waitress with light complexion, dark short curley hair, wearing black pants, a black long sleeve shirt with glasses approached us very rudely and said to us you cannot bring yout own water with you to drink and you must order it from the resturant.

As we have 5 children with us who have been walking around Estepona for most of the evening and we genrally carry two bottles of Nestle water with us and give them some water to drink as they get thirsty throughout the day and while eating.

When we asked the waitresses why she has approached us so aggressively in a rude manner she was advised that her manager asked her to talk to us about brining our own water.

We then asked to speak to the manager as she continued to be rude with us and literally ruined our evening.

The manager approached us who had short light hair with light complexion wearing a blue long sleeve shirt and dark pants with no eye glasses and no name tag.

When we requested her manager who spoke little English we translated to him in Spanish how we felt be his employee approaching us in a very rude way and even though he advised us that she was probably having a bad day I advised him that she should apologis and not be like that with us as guests of their resturant.

Since we did not get a positive response from the manager he decided to call the police and they ended up questioning us for an innocent bottle of water.

PLEASE READ this again: "the resturant manager ended up calling the police for a guest brining a bottle of water to the resturant!"

I have never seen this before in my life as I have visited many restaurants in Estepona and we have brought our own bottle of water and never had any issue before with any of the resturants in Estepona, Spain or the surrounding areas.

This resturant should be shut down and the rude waitress and manager should be changed immediatley for this inappropriate act.

I do not normally write negative reviews of resturants as it is genrally solved by the resturant manager, however in this case both the manager and the employee insisted on their actions and by calling the police this only made the situation worse.

I have attached a copy of our receipt showing the amount of food and drinks we ordered as proof of our visit and despite spending 99 Euros during our visit we were treated in the most unprofessional and inhumane manner possible.

I have also attached a photo of the water bottle which we had brought with us in a bag and an outside photo of the resturant on the evening of our visit.

If I were the owner I would take action immediatley to avoid such acts from happening again with their clients.

A message to all please stand clear of this place till the owner makes a management change.
