This piece is not about the food in this hotel as such, it is more about a particular food I am addicted to when in Hungary. Pogácsa is a type of savory scone in Hungarian cuisine and every time I visit the country there are always moments of drama when I eat Pogácsa. There’s always a desription of the taste and comments about how these are better or not as good as the ones I had last time!!!
You will find kiosks like this one, in Határ út station on the M3 (North-South) line of the Budapest Metro, all over the country. You generally smell the scones and breads before you see them.
I truly believe I tested the best ones so far on a recent visit to Hungary. We were at a wedding at the Geréby Kúria Hotel, Lajosmizse, which is approx. one hour south of Budapest. As we gathered before the ceremony, we were served drinks and Pogácsa. These gorgeous littles morsels, which were baked with pumpkin seeds on top were so light, flaky and incredibly moreish, that Mr A Jnr and Miss A had to intervene and ban me from the nibbles because I had eaten so many. It was truly role reversal, with calls of ‘you’ll never eat your dinner’! I did sneak a few more when they weren’t looking! Well I had to and I know lots of people who would have done the same!
