Stef's Restaurant

We wanted to eat near Leicester Square so I researched restaurants on the Internet in the area. Stef’s Restaurant had a high rating on the Toptable site and good reviews. They offered 3 courses and a half a bottle of wine between two for £19.95, which we thought was reasonable.

I always think the sign of a good restaurant is that it’s full and when we arrived Stef’s was.

As we entered the restaurant cheerful staff, wonderful food smells and a great atmosphere greeted us. We discovered this it was a family run business and our waiter was Stefano, a member of the family and restaurant owner. Stefano looked after us superbly and we felt at home immediately.

I had Funghi Misti (Mixed wild mushrooms, tossed in garlic, white wine and extra virgin olive oil, served with focaccia bread) followed by Spaghetti Alla Bolognaise (Traditional Italian meat sauce).

Mr A. had Antipasto Misto (Slices of Parma ham, salame Napoli, artichoke, sundried tomato and black olives) followed by Gnocchi Ai    Quattro Formaggi (Home-made potato dumplings with four great Italian cheeses).
I was very pleased with what I had ordered, my Bolognaise meat sauce was fantastic and the portion was bigger than I expected, that’s not a criticism! But I have to say, Mr A’s Gnocchi Ai Quattro Formaggi was amazing, I recommend this particular dish should you be fortunate to visit this excellent restaurant. The cheese taste was rich and the potato dumplings light, a perfect combination.

Although the inclusive house red wine was perfectly acceptable, our personal preference is for a more robust red, so we ordered a bottle of Primitvo as the accompaniment to our meal.

Of course I had to have dessert! I’m not a lover of Tiramisu, but thought why not try it at Stef’s, a traditional family run Italian restaurant? As you can see from the picture portion was huge but it was gorgeous. Very light, delicate and fluffy, I loved it.

Stef’s is a must if you want traditional food, a good atmosphere, attentive staff and value for money. I’ll be going back!
