7th July 2011

We came across this excellent restaurant by chance. We had booked a table at another bar/restaurant close to Bank Station, London as this was convenient for all those travelling by tube. It proved to be too noisy, so we abandoned our table and went in search of a quieter venue. Within a few minutes, we came across The Door Oyster Bar and Grill. I have to admit, the fact it was an oyster bar was sure to make it a hit with Mr A.

When we entered the restaurant the staff immediately greeted us with smiles and a warm welcome. They then took us to a lovely table in the middle of the room, where our waiter introduced himself.

Mr A. started our meal with a bottle of Prosecco and moved onto a bottle of Altos Las Hormigas Malbec, delicious.
For starters Mr A. had a selection of Mourne Rock and Kumomoto oysters. Our guest had Lobster Salad; I had some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The Lobster Salad was small but tasty and my bread, oil and vinegar was a hit, as usual.
After finishing his oysters, Mr A. said the Kumomoto oysters were the best oysters he had ever had and he would know about oysters. He’s had them from Sydney to Cape Town, Borough Market-London, Bibendum-London to Cannes, so I think he knows a good oyster when he tastes it!

For main Mr A. had Dorset lobster and truffle risotto with citrus nage, parmesan and chive crisp, our guest had grilled Salt Marsh lamb steak with roasted garlic and shallot confit and I had fricassee of Wiltshire corn fed chicken with broad beans and mint butter sauce. We had side orders of sweet potato wedges and creamed spinach.

We were all delighted with our choices. My chicken was tender and moist, the beans firm and the butter light, all in all, a beautiful combination.

The Door Oyster Bar and Grill turned out to be a little nugget we just happened upon and we will definitely be returning. I was surprised to find out that the same group as Green Door Steakhouse - Gloucester Road, another favourite of ours, owns it!
Excellent food, service and by all accounts, the best oysters in the world!! Now who wouldn’t want that?

The excellent food and service

The oysters (on Mr A's recommendation)
