Mr A. has been to all the Gaucho restaurants in London and was waiting for an opportunity to take the family. To be honest, I had already booked Del’Aziz in Fulham and he had booked Gaucho, guess who won! Having been to Ruth’s Chris Steak House, in Mexico, where we found the best steaks we had ever had, I was going to be judging Gaucho steaks on that basis.
As you can see from the interior pictures, the walls and chairs are covered in cowhide, which I found odd. From the minute you arrive you smell cooking meat. The chef cooks the steaks in the middle of the restaurant so you salivating as you are escorted to your table. We had a big round table in the corner, which gave me a view of the whole restaurant.
Our informative waiter from Dublin, who did not want to be in my blog pics, took our drink order and then brought the meat platter to explain the various cuts. Mr A. chose the Bife De Lomo Fillet – rare, Miss A. and I chose the Bife De Chirzo Sirloin – medium.
The bottle of Argentinian Malbec arrived just before the steaks, this is my ultimate favourite wine, rich red almost black in colour with a full bodied fruit flavour, perfect! The steaks arrived served with Spinach with garlic and lemon, Sweet potato chips with chorizo, Potato puree and Purple stem broccoli, fantastic! The steaks were absolutely gorgeous, as Mr A. said they would be and I have to agree. However, they are not better than Ruth’s Chris steaks, if anything I think Ruth’s Chris has the edge!!!!
As the waiter, who did not want to be photographed, realised I was doing a blog, he brought us a sample of the ice-creams and sorbets the restaurant offers, I must admit they were delicious particularly the Malbec sorbet.
All-in-all a fantastic meal and a lovely afternoon in great company before Mr A. was whisked off to Heathrow for a flight to Singapore. Would I go again? Of course, although it is better saved for a special occasion as Gaucho is not the lowest cost restaurant.
